Management Information Systems (MIS) Unit

The Department of Physical Planning at the District level is responsible for managing and coordinating the activities of the Department of Town and Country Planning and the Department of Parks and Gardens. It ensures proper land use, orderly development, and sustainable urban growth within the District.

The Department shall:

• Advise the District Assembly on national policies relating to physical planning, land use, and development.
• Coordinate the activities and projects of departments, agencies, and non-governmental organizations to ensure compliance with planning standards.
• Assist in preparing physical development plans to guide policy formulation, decision-making, and project design within the District.
• Advise on the setting out of approved layouts for future land development within the District.
• Provide technical guidance on building construction standards, ensuring that all new building plans are approved before development begins.
• Facilitate the demolition of unsafe or dilapidated structures and oversee recovery of related costs.
• Advise the Assembly on the location of billboards, communication masts, and other physical structures to ensure compliance with planning regulations.
• Provide technical advice on land acquisition for public use and oversee street naming, property numbering, and related activities.

Through its oversight role, the Department of Physical Planning ensures that development in the District is properly regulated, aesthetically appealing, environmentally sustainable, and aligned with approved spatial plans.
