On Thursday, 30th October 2025, the Social Welfare and Community Development Department of the Sefwi Akontombra District Assembly made a distribution of various items to Persons With Disabilities (PWD) beneficiaries at the District Assembly Conference Hall. The items included 30 pieces of deep freezers, 10 fufu pounding machines, 10 sewing machines and cash support for over 30 persons.
Speaking at the event, Hon Joseph Appiah (DCE) who presided over the distribution of the items stated that the Government is committed to taking care of Persons With Disabilities in Ghana which even resulted in the enforcement of a minimum 5% empowerment quota in Public and in Private Sectors and the provision of free tertiary education for PWDs.
He revealed that it was through needs assessment report that the Assembly has taken a decision to support some PWD members with medical bills, provide economic and educational supports and also to purchase the various items to be distributed to the PWD beneficiaries in the District. He further announced that the Government led by President John Mahama has increased the quota giving to PWDs in respect to the DACF.
